The Lafayette County Foster Grandparent Program provides meaningful volunteer opportunities for persons 55 years of age or older to render supportive person-to-person services to children with special or exceptional needs. Foster Grandparents volunteer a minimum of 15 hours a week and must meet income guidelines to qualify for the program. In return for their volunteer service, they receive a small tax-free stipend, transportation allowance, an annual physical examination, insurance coverage, and a noon meal. The 87 volunteers serve children at 11 volunteer stations and NMRC, offering love, friendship, tutoring, mentoring, and one-on-one daily attention.
